Oh, she is just so cool!

Ok, this was about the least touristy thing I have done this whole time out here. I went to a big pop concert with the locals. Haha. Oh goodness, this was one of my favorite times seeing her (I ranked it 4th of the 12 times- the best was Portland Nov 9, 2002- Julie, where we met). I got there quite early and sat with the other big fans. It is just so interesting now, being older and still into Gwen. Usually the fans that are there are the girls who dress like her. I am not one of these girls (Mikki ain't no Gwenabe), so I looked a little funny arriving by myself dressed in capri, chacos, and a Northface jacket- I left my crazy makeup, stokinette, big boots and short skirts at home, dang it. I got a pretty good place in general admission- I was in the center and there were just 2 people in front of me. I hate big concerts and crowds. I was getting nervous that people would start pushing their way up to the front when she came on, but once she was there no one moved spots- it was great! Oh, I wish I had this camera at all the concerts I have been to! I have never taken concert photos before, but I think these turned out nicely. I also got a few videos in as well.
Well, the show was great. The trombone and trumpet player from No Doubt played with her, it was good to see some old friends (haha, actually I have met them a few times)- I love Gabriel McNair. There were all the same other musicians from her last tour, which I think says something about Gwen. It was funny because I feel like I know her stage performance so well that I would kind of guess what she was going to do (she likes to go to the sides during verses, then run around during fast choruses, for example). I knew that she was going to come into the crowd (from Julie), that's why I wanted to get there early. However, she ran to the back of the floor and performed, then ran around to the seats. Oh, she is just so cool- what other major star would do that? At the begining of the show, Elvis Costellos' song "Watching the Detectives" was playing during this little skit by the dancers to introduce "Sweet Escape"- I love that song! Anyway, I had a lot of fun and it was a total success and totally worth the hassel, for sure! Oh, I wasn't going to get a t-shirt because I didn' love any of them and they were pricey, but then I realized the tour dates were for Europe and I just had to get one- it's ok... add it to the collection.
P.S. Right now I am Zurich, killing time before my night train to Budapest tonight, that's why I am posting so much.

Well, always good to know you are still alive! I wasn't sure where you were & was dreading getting a tearful call (you were still 10 hrs away by train, you lost your ticket, all your stuff had been stolen.......), so good to hear you made it & had such a good time. Great to have your own good shots of the show. (Getting a little artsy, aren't you?)

I'm still waiting for my phone call. Dad says he'd like you to call every few days & he will put $$ in your account to do it.

And what was the deal with the older couples? How did you hook up with them? Were they at the hostel?

You're having some great experiences! Have a good road!

Wicked pix of our friend Gwen, Mikki!! And I love that you still rank the Portland show (our fateful meeting) as your fave.

Hadn't even thought of the 2 wedding similarity but your observation made me smile. Woohoo! Happy Canadian Thanksgiving (I send my greetings after the turkey binge). Safe travels!

Did you know that if you click on your quote "Mikki ain't no Gwenabe", it links you to a letter to the editor of a Seattle newspaper that you wrote a while back! Pretty cool! You're famous Mikki!
